Apparently Richard the Lionheart landed in Coutainville before setting off on the crusades. A little later soldiers injured in the first world war were sent here to recuperate.
Now a popular seaside resort, Coutainville holds a regular antique brocante on the last Sunday of the month, from March to December. The sale is on Place du 28 Juillet with professional sellers from Brittany and Normandy set up ready for 8am, closing at 7pm latest.
If you don’t have to rush, the market is just a short walk from lovely sandy beaches, wide Manche skies, jolly seaside restaurants and shops.
Dates for 2018:
- 25 March
- 29 April
- 27 May
- 24 June
- 29 July
- then monthly until December.
